The Potomac Appalachian Trail Club received the US Forest Service Chief's 2018 Enduring Service Award on Earth Day 2019. This national award recognizes PATC's 90-year collaborative partnership with the Forest Service in the Lee and North River Ranger Districts of the George Washington & Jefferson National Forests. The Forest Service presented the award to PATC President Joe Lombardo in a ceremony in DC on April 22. At the same time, the Lee Ranger District held a special reception for local volunteers in the District Office in Edinburg. Five SSVC trail workers attended the reception and watched the award ceremony online.
SSVC members maintain trails on Massanutten Mountain in the Lee District and within the proposed Shenandoah Mountain National Scenic Area and Ramseys Draft Wilderness in the North River District.
Congratulations to PATC and to SSVC for this important recognition, based on many years of volunteer work!
