SNP South District Trail
Who Are We?
We are members of the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club that volunteer our efforts in the Shenandoah National Park and to hikers in its South District. We maintain 45 miles of the Appalachian Trail along this section. The district begins at the most southern end of the park, near the city of Waynesboro (Rockfish Gap) and ends at Swift Run Gap, near the town of Elkton.
Trails in the South district offer a more remote experience than in the North and Central districts of the Park. This is true, despite the presence of Skyline Drive and facilities such as at Loft Mountain and Dundo Picnic Grounds. There is proportionately more federally designated wilderness here.

4) Smith Roach Gap to Powell Gap: 1.6 miles
5) Powell Gap to Flattop Mtn Summit: 2 miles
6) Flattop Mtn Summit to Simmons Gap: 1.1 miles
7) Simmons Gap to Pinefield Gap: 1.9 miles
8) Pinefield Gap to Ivy Creek Overlook: 1.8 miles
9) Ivy Creek Overlook to Ivy Creek Hut Trail: 2.1 miles
10) Ivy Creek Hut Trail to Frazier Discovery Trail: 0.9 miles
11) Frazier Discovery Trail to Loft Mt.Camp Store: 1.2 miles
12) Loft Mt. Camp Store to Loft Mt. Amphitheater Trail: 1.3 miles
13) Loft Mt. Amphitheater Trail to Doyles River Trail: 0.8 miles
14) Doyles River Trail to Browns Gap: 2.2 miles
